The City School District of New Rochelle is seeking an Assistant Director of Special Education - Secondary Leave Replacement
The Assistant Director of Special Education Secondary - assists in the overall supervision, direction, coordination, and evaluation of staff serving Students with Disabilities in the Special Education Department at assigned school.
Responsibilities include oversight of the Committee on Special Education (CSE) in accordance with the City School District of New Rochelle’s District policies and NYSED Part 200 Regulations.
Reports to: Director of Secondary Special Education and Building Principal
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Assist in the direction and management of all special education programs and services to meet student needs.
• Assist in the necessary professional development resources, and materials to support staff in the accomplishment of special education goals.
• Keep abreast of developments in special education regulations and make decisions on staff and student issues regarding compliance and procedural safeguards. Consult with building leadership to implement special education initiatives.
• Ensure the safety of students and compliance with ADA, State, and Federal Regulations.
• Conduct special education training and meetings to keep administration and district staff knowledgeable about policy changes, new programs, current best practices, and other pertinent information regarding special education.
• Provide consultative services in the maintenance and confidentiality of student records.
• Ensure that special education staff is in compliance with IDEA.
• Coordinate, prepare, and present current procedural and programmatic issues regarding special education.
• Serve as a resource for information regarding special education, its purpose, objectives, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Assist department in the design professional development and improvement plans to ensure exemplary program operations and improve student achievement.
• Assist the Director in working with parents to promote and encourage understanding of special education as it relates to students with special needs.
• Screen and interview applicants with school administration for various positions and make recommendations for hiring.
• Make recommendations relative to personnel placements, transfers, and discipline.
• Work with the Director to develop policies and procedures regarding issues of non- compliance.
• Directly supervise special education teachers on special assignments and be responsible for all CSE processes and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
